Why 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播?

I chose 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播 because of the financial aid the school provided. Coming in as a transfer student, the admissions and advising offices made the process very simple, which I appreciated. I was extremely scared that I would not be able to afford a four-year private college such as 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播. But I took a leap of faith and applied. Turns out the scholarship package I was offered was better than a lot of other schools I got into. I was grateful for this and immediately chose Augie.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

I have grown tremendously in my couple years at 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播. I felt challenged several times during my time here. Balancing classes and social integration as a commuter and a transfer student was difficult. But I made friends and connections with students, faculty and staff that will last.

I can say that I expected a lot of good things to come out of my time at 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播, but my expectations were surely exceeded. I have a clearer vision of what I want to achieve for myself, thanks to my time here.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

I am grateful for the amazing support system 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播 has provided me. I would not be the senior I am today without help from so many people around me. The first two people who made a lasting impression on me were Professor Mamata Marmé and Paula Kerezsi. They were extremely patient, helpful and resourceful during my initial integration into 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播 as a transfer student.

I am grateful for the time I spent making connections with other international students during the OISSS orientation.

My family and friends also helped me get to where I am today by providing financial and emotional support, but also by being patient with me.

So many professors, including Dr. Delaney, Dr. Zhou, Dr. Marmé, Dr. Gould and many others, helped me time and time again figure out my path to success. The staff in CORE, the Learning Commons, and Counseling Services also helped me several times. I wouldn't be where I am today without my family, friends, professors and other connections at Augie!

Peak experience?

A peak experience for me was being selected to attend the National Character and Leadership Symposium in Springs, Colo. The two-day symposium at the U.S. Air Force Academy was enlightening. I got the chance to listen to and meet amazing leaders such as Bryan Stevenson, Timothy Alexander, Scott Kirby and others. This opportunity helped me reflect on leadership, resilience, hardship, growth and inclusion. I am grateful that 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播 provided me with this unique opportunity.

What surprised you?

I was surprised at how helpful the resources such as CORE, Counseling Services, tutoring and others were. I was determined to do well in my classes. But I also used these additional resources, which helped me secure my internship, deal with academic stress, and improve skills that are extremely important for future job positions. I wish I used some of these resources even earlier.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used Augie Choice for my summer internship. I was grateful to land a paid internship, but I had to prepare myself for the full-time position by purchasing more business casual attire. I also used the money for gas, rent and lunch expenses. Augie Choice lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.

What will you miss the most?

I met a great friend group at 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播, and I will miss them a lot. I will also miss the amazing support network provided by my professors, advisors and 365体育滚球-滚球体育app-投注*直播 staff. As an international student, I will miss the international connections I have made while here. I will miss the great events such as Shades of Beauty, Diwali, AfroFest, Sloughfest, bingo and so many others.

"Jalane is exceptional. Her desire to thoroughly understand a concept in as many ways as possible, and not being satisfied with just mastering one way is one of the many things that make her exceptional. I feel no right in thinking that we somehow transformed her. I believe she came to us fully formed as a learner, and it has been a privilege to get to know her and see her grow."
